Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia, the name given to this condition, can be literally interpreted as "pain in the muscle". Myalgia, meaning pain, and fibro, referring to the fiberous tissue, or muscle.

Because there are so many other symptoms associated with fibromyalgia, in addition to muscular pain, more than a few people with the condition have wished it were given a new name. One that more accurately described the nature of the condition. Especially since fibromyalgia has been considered an "It's all in your head" condition for so many years. Or, it has been used as a kind of wastebasket diagnosis; "All the tests have ruled out the possibility of other conditions, it must be fibromyalgia".

At the end of this presentation I will suggest one possible candidate for a new name for fibromyalgia.
