The directors are organized alphabetically by last name. It is possible that there is more than one director for a single film (especially in the case of anthology pieces).
They get the credit for the feel and impact of the film, and generally call all the shots. While most directors delve into horror, it's usually at the start of their careers, before they move on to more reputable subjects. Others make their mark in Horror and stay there (John Carpenter, Wes Craven, George Romero, Dario Argento, David Cronenberg, Steve Miner, etc.) only straying as an experiment. Warning: just because something says "Wes Craven's...". "John Carpenter's..." or "Adolf Hitler's..." doesn't mean they are the director. Also: stay away from "The People Under the Stairs."
