The tyranist's thoughts
I'm having a difficult time coming up with much to say about this one. It felt very American in spite of it's Italian background and while I enjoyed watching the movie, it had too many shortcomings to really be entertaining.
Long ago, the baron of a small town in Austria was a bad, bad man. A local witch put a curse on him that would allow him to be revived so that he could suffer the tortures that he had put to the locals over and over again. Well, some idiots including one of his descendants decide to wake him up. Predicably, he starts killing people, just where he left off.
I found Elke Sommer to be boring and somewhat detestable in this. The rest of the actors weren't terrible, but weren't great. On the positive side, the movie felt like a period piece even though it was contemporary when they filmed it. I guess that means it aged well.
I can't really recommend it, but you might want to see it anyway. There seems to be a lot of buzz around Bava and this film is among those most often mentioned.
