The tyranist's thoughts
I like the variety the European sensibility brings to horror. If it weren't for a slightly different outlook, we wouldn't have Dario Argento's great films, the recent British wave with movies like Dog Soldiers and Shaun of the Dead and many others in between. Still these social horror flicks of the late '60s and early '70s that mostly came out of Italy (although this one came from Spain) just don't work for me. The horror just never really materializes and it seems that a lot of them were made very cheaply and largely without a shooting script.
So a woman who is only 2 weeks from her wedding date, decides to visit the countryside where she is apparently heir to a castle and the title that comes with it. Once there, her uncle begins to weave the tale of their inheritance and how some of it involves sucking a little blood once in a while.
This was better than some of the same sub-genre, although it lacked the gratuitous nudity that was so common. The story sort of makes sense until about the last half an hour. I suspect the cut I saw was incomplete to say the least, but I was greatly confused by the ending. The characters are somewhat interesting and some of the flippant attitude of this kind of movie is lacking in the places it is usually most annoying.
Not much I can really recommend about this one. It wasn't the worst I've seen, but the ending made it impossible for me to enjoy it at all.
