The tyranist's thoughts
I'm normally the kind of guy who goes in for this kind of movie, but I have to admit that this time around Ken Russell administered a beating that not even I can take. The premise behind the movie is a fascinating one and could be turned into a fantastic movie. To retell the night that Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, and John Polidori sat around telling ghost stories and then coming up with several classics is fascinating to those of us steeped in the strange lore of the horror world. But this is an atrocity. Before I bash it any further I have to admit that the copy that I watched had static over the soundtrack for the first half hour and this greatly diminished the viewing experience, but still, it was fine for more than two-thirds of the movie. I found it confusing, unadulterated crap. I can only assume that Ken was trying to portray an evening tainted heavily with drugs and hallucinations, but in the end all I had was a few interesting little points combined with a ton of overhead that I really couldn't sort out. Please stay away from this one. As much as everyone loves The Lair of the White Worm this one should be avoided.
