Rish Outfield's reviews
Very few slasher movies were made during the 90's, and this wasn't one of
them. Well-made, with high production values and amazingly great special
effects. Still, I didn't much care for it. Child murders really aren't my
cup of tea, and the fate of Annette Benning's kid turned my stomach. And
what was up with that kid at the end . . . one minute she's Robert Downey Jr.'s
best friend (a mindless zombified psycho-child), the next, she's screaming
and running for her life from him. Hmmm. And I hated the ending. Hated.
As much as tyranist liked it, I DIDN'T like it.
Best Scare: Creepy dream images, such as the part with the dog. Yuck.
I'd Recommend It To: Ho hum. Maybe you, maybe not you.
The tyranist's thoughts
I went to this one expecting crap. I was sorely disappointed since the movie turned out to be well done and very creepy
even if it wasn't the best horror film I have ever seen. From the opening credits (which had me quivering a little) through
all of the encounters with insanity and a psychic psychopath and then in the fantastically twisted ending, I enjoyed this
movie. I am so glad that Rish and I decided to see it on the big screen just in case we would regret not having done so
later. It was obviously high budget (Dreamworks doesn't skimp) but the name stars weren't so big that they overwhelmed the
story. Annette Benning did the best job I have ever seen her do. Robert Downing Jr. was unconvincing but adequate. This is
the second time that Aidan Quinn has had a part in a horror movie that surprised me by being good. So for all of you who
don't understand that I was pleased by how good this movie turned out to be, know that this isn't one I'll buy, but I would
recommend that every horror fan see it at least once. Oh . . . and the title is appropriate.
