Rish Outfield's reviews
This was a new twist. Instead of rehashing the same story as the first one, as so many sequels do, this went in a new direction. It still included a lot of horniness, though. Natasha "Hottie" Henstridge returned as the gorgeous alien, but with shorter hair and a less substantial role. Most of the film's ample nudity was spent on others rather than her. Marge Helgenberger and Michael Madsen's roles were stifled and less interesting/developed this time round. It wasn't as fun as Species, either. Still, kudos on not making this one too much like Terminator 2. This wasn't as much Horror as the first one was.
Best Scare: Probably seeing an army of alien children in an old barn.
I'd Recommend It To: Dunno. If you loved the first one, you'll like the second.

The tyranist's thoughts
This is a very good sequel to the first entry in the series. It doesn't fall prey to many of the pitfalls of sequels and manages to take a fairly fresh approach to the subject matter. In my review of the first Species , I mentioned Lifeforce. In retrospect, I should have saved it for this review. The plots of Lifeforce and Species II are much more similar.
Most of the main characters from the first movie are back for the second. Only my favorite, Forest Whitaker, is missing of those who were alive at the end. They also succeeded in doing something that rarely happens in horror sequels. The villain is actually scarier in this entry. That happened in the Friday the 13th series and arguably the Alien series, but I can't think of any other good examples off of the top of my head. Some might argue that we simply fear men more, but I don't think that is it at all. I think they removed any sympathy genereated by his need to procreate. Perhaps, it is that he can do it over and over and over again without death that makes it so bad. Either way, it is more frightening. I would still probably rate this movie about even with the first, What it makes up for in scariness, it loses in a poorer script. Still, you should enjoy the two flicks back to back.
