Adiamante
Author: L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
Year: 1996
Abstract:
10,000 years after a great war, cybernetic humans return to Earth, to wage another war on the remaining populace. The near
Utopian society patiently accepts the arrival of these 'cyber-warriors', and is keenly aware of their intent to reclaim
what once was theirs. While a great fleet of starships, made from Adiamantium (a nearly indestructible material), orbits
the planet, the people of Earth attempt to negotiate for peace. The unwelcome visitors, however, make it quite clear they
are not interested in peace.

Spectre's Review
Ugh. What the hell is a "piñon." It's used several times per page, and really pissed me off. It's some kind of
tree, but it's a damned annoyingly named one. Anyway, aside from the annoying word usage, difficult invented terms, and
radically funky names, the storyline was pretty cool. These cyber-dudes rejected by Earth 10,000 ago come back and try to
take Earth back. What they don't realize is the present population of Earth has evolved into a collective of sorts, with
technology far overshadowing that of the 'Vereal Union'. These huge starships, made from Adiamantium, come barreling in,
and get blown to hell. I liked the military stuff, and it was a good look into what a society completely integrated into
the Internet could become. However, the over-use of 'Pin-yohn' ticked me off enough to drop the rating on this one.
Spectre's Rating
A good read, but damned annoying.
