tyranist's Review
A distant sequel to The Talisman, and much more horror than fantasy this time, I'd
actually link this closer to the Dark Tower series than it's predecessor. Still, it is a sequel
and features Jack Sawyer again only almost twenty years later. A must for fans of both
The Talisman and the Dark Tower series.
It starts out difficultly with an odd point of view used for exposition. If you can get past
those first disorienting chapters, though, there is a wealth of story to be had. I struggled
through about the first hundred pages, had fun with the next 200 and then flew through
the rest.
One of the biggest strengths of the novel lies in the characters. They are fully developed
and lovable when they need to be, loathable when they should be. This is something truly
unique considering the fact that this is a collaboration. Most collaborations, while strong
on story, lack the full cast of good characters.
Pick it up if you are a King fan, you are likely to enjoy it. And remember this is all the
Dark Tower we get for a year or two.
