Fisherman's Hope

Author: David Feintuch

Year: 1996

Abstract:
I have to quote the back on this one, it's perfect! "There is nowhere to hide from the deadly night. Even our human ark, our Earth, is only a fragile raft adrift in the infinite darkness. But with the strength of the blessed, and the courage of the damned, can one hero set humanity's course toward the dawn?" Captain Nicholas Seafort is put in charge of the United Nations Naval Academy, and must train thirteen year-olds to be men. Something goes wrong, and the Fish, utterly inhuman aliens, swarm the solar system and Earth prepares for Armageddon. Captain Seafort takes a desperate chance, and risks the very existence of mankind.

Spectre's Review
Quite refreshing. This is written in first person narrative, and Mr. Feintuch does an excellent job. The character of Captain Seafort is frustrating at times. He second guesses himself a lot. the action sequences are spectacular. There isn't too much of a direct plot until near the end, but most of the front stuff is still pretty exciting and worth the read. Near the end, where Seafort is starting to go a bit mad (he later recovers), he yells something like, "I AM THE FISHERMAN!!!" I burst out laughing when I read that, I though it was hilarious. I definitely recommend this book for your permanent collection.

I want to be a fisherman, too!
