Homeschool Humor
by Mike Smith, HSLDA

Just Lock Me Up

We know that homeschooling can be very stressful and tiring. But I'm here to share with you some of the humor in homeschooling, because sometimes we just need to laugh, even if it is at ourselves. After all, laughter is good medicine for the blues.

One homeschool mom was having trouble teaching her 6-year-old son how to read (been there and done). As a matter of fact, he told mom he just didn't want to learn how to read.

Mom, in deep desperation, decided to try psychology to motivate her son—you might call it reverse psychology. (I might have that wrong because I dropped my psychology class in college the first week. The professor was really weird).

She said: "Johnny, if you don't start learning how to read I will get in trouble and have to go to jail. Now you don't want mommy to have to go to jail, do you?"

He pondered, slowly shook his head side to side and said: "I sure am going to miss you, mom."

Destination Laughter

Geography also seems to bring out the best in humor.

Another homeschool mom and her children were studying the states and learning the capitals. She asked her third grader what the capital of Louisiana was, and she answered ‘L.' "

Yet another mom asked her first grader to give the names of the three ships that sailed with Christopher Columbus. He replied: " … the Pinta, Nina, and the Rosh Hashanah."

I hope this has lightened your day a little and served as a reminder that school can be really funny, and that kids can say the funniest things. But in closing let me give you one of the benefits of homeschooling you may not have thought of: If you get caught talking to yourself, you can call it a PTA meeting.

Have fun homeschooling today!

In the past, Anna has taken debate, drama, and speech class. Anna accepted Christ as her Savior at 12 years old and has had the privilege of volunteering at AWANA and Pioneer Bible Camp during her summers. She is very blessed to always have love and support from her family, friends, and most importantly God. Anna would appreciate your prayers as she moves on to pursue her career and be a light to others.

Having recently spent a few months traveling in Europe, learning about different cultures and enjoying local cuisines also made him realize how important his family and their support is in his life. His future aspirations include more travel and attending SLCC to pursue a degree in computer science engineering, Lord willing. Above all he looks up to God as his ultimate Guide in life, where He leads Eddy will follow.
