The tavern radiates a warm welcome. The low ceiling and dim lighting
provided by a few scattered glowbaskets combine into a comfortable den
for the Starsmiths and their friends. Dragonriders, Traders and
travelers of all stations come here to enjoy a light meal and a
restorative drink. Crafters returning from the observatory after
midnight like to warm up around a cup of klah, a strong liquor or
both. Tales and rumors of all sorts can be overheard, many of them
involving the mechanics of celestial bodies like Belior, Timor, or the
Dawn Sisters. This is the place where Apprentices and Masters alike
come to clean the dust from the library hides out of their throats by
having a good glass of wine or freshly squeezed juice. Join in and
enjoy the nice food and drinks.

Ursa wanders in and plops into a chair.
Garwyn looks up and smiles at the stablehand. "Heya Ursa."
Ursa says "So do you really have to know the names of all those stars up
there?"
Garwyn nods, "Yes Ursa. Do you know the names of the runners you work
with?"
Flannery walks in from the hallway.
Ursa laughs! "Well, yes, I do, at that."
Flannery strides in, still rubbing the cold of /between/ from her arms.
"Hmmmmm...Ahem!"
Azure suddenly appears from *between*.
Senta walks in from the hallway.
Ursa peers up, wondering if she has to do runner duty. She quickly
notices that the woman is a Rider, and sighs in relief. She asks, "You
need some help, Rider, ma'am?"
Garwyn nods to the stranger. "Welcome." He turns to Ursa, waiting.
Rhone walks out of a sudden mist.
Senta smiles broadly as she notices the new arrival. "Welcome,
greenrider! OUr duty to Benden and her queens."
Rhone waves
Rhone says "hello Everyone."
Flannery glances about at all the sudden attention. "Uh...wha....me?
Actually, I could use a drink, if you please....I'm Flannery, rider to
green Tyrrath...and my duty to your hall, ma'am...."
Ursa smiles as Senta arrives. Whew. Some one official to do that
official greeting stuff. She does the serving stuff, hopping up to get
the Rider a drink.
Senta ambles toward the bar, winking at the hall's denizens as she
withdraws a bottle of her favorite Benden White. "Well met, Flannery.
I'm Senta, the headwoman here...and these are Rhone, Garwyn,
BlackAdder and Ursa."
Garwyn nods to Senta and Rhone. "Heya." He goes to help Ursa.
BlackAdder walks in, gets a cup of klah and sits down at a table.
Azure is no longer listening.
BlackAdder calls out to Azure and he glides onto his shoulder.
Rhone sips his wine
BlackAdder takes a sip of klah.
Flannery nods her head as she sidles up to the bar, hopping atop a stool
as though faulting into her lifemate's straps. "I'm pleased to meet
you all....oh, thank you!" She smiles brightly at the headwoman as a
drudge fills her glass. "And how are all of you today?"
Ursa nods politely, watching Senta carefully. When she notices Senta
getting the private stash, she sits back down with a grin.
Senta leans against the bar, chin in hand. "Nothing but the best for our
friends at Benden, to be sure...so, then, greenrider - what brings you
to our humble hall? "
Garwyn grins and nudges Ursa as she sits down. "Well, thank you."
Ursa leans over to Garwyn to comment, "Yeah, but at least runners *look*
different. With stars, they're all... well, they're just all stars.
'cept some are brighter."
BlackAdder takes a small sip of klah.
Garwyn looks down and frowns at Ursa. "You starting that again?"
Flannery leans back, looking a bit distracted. She tosses back a gulp of
the wine, glancing from face to face with slightly unfocused eyes. She
appears to be mumbling softly to herself. At last she starts and
wheels about to face the headwoman. "Oh...me? Well to be perfectly
honest, I don't know! Tyrrath said something to me about 'picking up
something'....I guess she meant a farviewer..."
Ursa shrugs, frowning, "Well, yeah. I am. I'm just trying to understand,
ya know? There's gotta be more to it than I can see, cause all I see
is... well... stars."
Senta nods, pursing her lip. she hurries toward the door, poking her
head out and looking back and forth along the corridor. "Oh...Teala?
Teala! come here, please!"
Teala, as usual, is noplace to be seen.
Rhone waves bye he has some business to take crae of.
Rhone is swallowed by a sudden mist, when the mist clears he is gone.
BlackAdder observes everyone with a slighty grin.
BlackAdder ers. "slight."
Flannery folds her arms impatiently. "Perhaps someone else could get me
one?"
Flannery glances at the othersin the room with a vague smile.
Garwyn looks down at Ursa. "That's the idea Ursa." He turns to Flannery,
"M'am, I have one you can use."
Flannery raises both brows at Garwyn, nodding anxiously. "You do? I'd
appreciate that very much..."
Senta shakes her head and mouths the word 'no' in Garwyn's direction.
"Nonsense! A rider from Benden is to have a new farviewer - the best
our hall can offer! Ursa! I can't find Teala anywhere...would you be
so kind as to fetch a new farviewer for Flannery, and meet us in the
courtyard?"
BlackAdder grins to himself.
Ursa nods and hops up, running to the door. She frowns, then comes back
to whipser urgently to Garwyn, "Where are the farviewers?"
Garwyn frowns and holds his hand on the farviewer.
Flannery leans against the bar, kicking her foot against the brass
absently.
BlackAdder takes a sip of klah.
Garwyn rubs his brow . "I think there are some in the observatory."
Ursa nods, and runs off with a tossed off, 'Thanks!"
Senta "I'll go with you...wouldn't want the thing to get broken...
You walk away from the noise of the tavern and out into the corridor.
SouthWest Corridor
You are standing in the southwest section of the hall's central
corridor, a circular hallway constructed of precisely-hewn stone. A
row of evenly-spaced glowbaskets illuminates the outer wall like a
strand of brilliant jewels, curving off to the north and to the east.
This section forms the terminus of the corridor, meeting at the halls'
entrance, to the southwest. A round courtyard, concentric with the
hallway, lies to the northeast. To the southeast is the apprentice
dormitory, while to the northwest is the apprentices' other home, the
Dawn Sisters Tavern.

Senta walks in from the northwest and out of the tavern.
Ursa makes her way to the observatory and back as if she knew her way
around here. :)
Senta heehee.
You walk under the open archway to the northeast and into the courtyard.
Courtyard(#2002RJMa)
The view of the heavens from the circular and spacious courtyard is, as
you would expect, nothing short of spectacular. On cloudless nights,
you could get lost trying to count the myriad of twinkling stars
above. There are four paths, each leading out of the center towards
four different corridors. The center of the courtyard is the perfect
place to view the sky, and a farviewer is set up just for that
purpose. A bench nearby seems ideal for weary apprentices or lovers.
To the north, a stone table stands silently: an excellent spot for a
picnic, or for charts to be unfurled.

Blizzard looks up and barks letting everyone know someone has entered!
Tyrrath warbles, leaping a little suddenly.
Ursa scowls, "Such a racket!" She hands the farviewer to Senta. "There."
Then frowns, "Should we get the Rider a nicer cover?"
Ursa frowns, "I know I've seen the Masters with those nice, properly
dyed covers."
Senta beams, nodding with some enthusiasm. "Oh, why not? As I said, we
don't get visitors too often, and I want to give Flannery our best.
You know I hear they have a clutch on the sands at Benden...." she
touches her face wistfully and smiles.
Ursa frowns, "In the stores? Could Shaly help me get one?"
Tyrrath lowers her great head suddenly, her large snout directly behind
the small of Ursa's back. Her eyes whirl an excited yellow as they fix
on the stablehand.
Senta's hand flies to her mouth in horror. Her eyes widen. "What...what
is it? Is it..../thread/??"
Senta is staring directly at Tyrrath, watching the movements of the
great greeen with a mixture of fascination and anxiety.
Ursa eeps! "Thread? Where?"
Ursa panics, "I have to get the runners in! They're all out to pasture."
Senta just continues to stare at Tyrrath, frozen in stunned silence.
Ursa looks around wildly, about to dash towards the pastures to get the
runners, but can't see a way around the big green blockade.
Tyrrath lowers her great green wedge and suddenly butts Ursa from
behind, gently by Tyrrath's standards, but hard enough to knock the
woman off balance.
Flannery walks in from under the open archway to the southwest.
Blizzard looks up and barks letting everyone know someone has entered!
Ursa oufs! "hey! You big lump!" Unbalanced by the worry of thread, she's
saying things she wouldn't usually. When she sees the lump's Rider
walk in, her panicked face creases into an even worrieder look.
Flannery dashes into the courtyard, her hands flailing before hger.
"Tyrrath, you silly girl! why didn't you tell me?! Oh, hello again,
Headwoman..." she gives a quick smile and nod to Senta.
Elaine curtsies and introduces herself "Hello, I am Elaine from Keroon"
Tyrrath rumbles deep in her throat, a look of fierceness in her eye that
might strike terror into the R-e-d Star itself. She draws herself up
regally, then with a hot burst of dragonbreath, wuffles Ursa
authoritatively.
Flannery smiles a little to Elaine. "WEll met..." she then turns her
attention back to her lifemate and Tyrrath's poor victim...
Elaine walks under the southwestern archway and into the corridor.
Ursa gulps as Flannery approaches and starts to rise to apologize. At
the whuffling, she topples back down on her seat and gulps again. Not
just gulps, but *GULPS*!
Senta just steps backward, her hand still poised before her gaping
mouth. "I've seen this happen before...but..." she winces in
Flannery's direction. "...is it usually like this? I've never seen a
dragon so.../energetic/..." she plasters on her headwoman's grin with
this last.
Garwyn walks in from under the open archway to the southwest.
Blizzard looks up and barks letting everyone know someone has entered!
Flannery just smiles at the headwoman and winks, then approaches Ursa
and lays a reassuring hand on her shoulder. As she gazes at Ursa with
unfocused eyes she utters, "Don't fear....don't fear...you know,
Tyrrath actually /likes/ you..."
Senta approaches Garwyn and lays a hand on his arm, her eyes still
nervously on Tyrrath.
Garwyn stops as he sees the dragon and starts to back up.
Tyrrath suddenly drops to the ground, her eyes whirling blue at the new
object of her affection.
Ursa looks up at Flannery, panic still streaked across her face. "I
didn't mean to insult her, really!" The panicked expression is
suddenly twinged with confusion. "Uhm, she likes me? Is *this*" she
gestures, her arms making a broad sweeping motion in her bewilderment,
"considered affection?"
Garwyn backs up behind Senta.
Flannery giggles softly, her head shaking from side to side. "No, no,
dear...no! Tyrrath believes you might make a fine candidate to stand
for the clutch of fair Dyinath on Benden's sands...."
Senta gasps deeply, a smile curling her lips. "Well, that's what I
thought she wanted...I've never seen a dragon look so like she wanted
to /eat/ a human before, though..." She titters softly to herself.
Ursa had been making a very valiant attempt to regain her composure, but
loses ground quickly upon hearing that. "Uhm, me? You mean me?"
Flannery nods serenely, a smile of deep satisfaction lighting her face.
"Yes indeed, Ursa...By the authority of Benden Weyr, I must ask you if
you will accept Search?"
Garwyn smiles from behind Senta, a still worried look on his face.
Senta folds her arms and smiles with deep pride. "Oh shards. There goes
another stablehand. where /will/ I find another?"
Ursa stares at Flannery blankly a moment. She processes that question
carefully, then turns to look at Senta, an appeal for help, "But...
some one's gotta bring the runners in?"
Garwyn chuckles, "I can do it for you Ursa."
Senta, on hearing this, rushes over to Ursa and Flannery, smoothing her
apron as she runs. "Now, now! Runners, indeed! I'll make /Telear/
bring in the runners, child! Your destiny lies elsewhere..."
Senta turns to give Garwyn a grateful smile. "Thank you, apprentice.
You're very kind..."
Garwyn nods to the Headwoman as he smiles at Ursa.
Ursa's mouth opens and shuts wordlessly a couple of times. She finally
blurts out, "But... But Comet needs special mash, she still can't eat
proper hay. And Tubb kicks unless you approach him right... and..."
Flannery grins gently, her hand still atop Ursa's shoulder. "Now
Ursa....I think the headwoman's already made arrangements for your
tasks to be performed..." She suddenly grows more somber. "Unless you
don't /want/ to stand for our clutch..."
Senta's gaze narrows and she makes little flicking motions with the back
of her hand toward Ursa.
Ursa blinks, "Want to? Want to? Of course I want to... It's just
that..." She trails off. "Well, that Benden is so far away." She
glances at Garwyn when she says that, "And, I'm not sure I know how
to?" Words keep tumbling out, "I mean, all I know is runners. I wasn't
even good enough to be an apprentice, ya know? And it was my brother
tha always wanted to ride a dragon, and he's never even been to a
weyr..." with that the rampant words seem to settle down.
Senta glances at the ground with some embarrassment. "Ursa....?"
Senta approaches the stablehand now and gives her shoulders a squeeze.
"Now Ursa...I grew up at a weyr, and I can tell you it's not as scary
as all that...I think the green lovely here has made a fine
choice...don't you, greenrider?" She grins expectantly at Flannery.
Flannery beams ear to ear, chuckling deeply. "Oh, indeed I do - and I
must warn you, Ursa..." She waggles a finger mock-admonishingly.
"...that Tyrrath doesn't take the word 'No' very happily..." she rolls
her eyes and smacks her forehead dramatically.
Tyrrath merely sits staring adoringly at Ursa, her wuffling breath like
a hot bellows against the young woman's shoulders.
Garwyn walks over and takes Ursas hand. "Ursa, if there was every any
one to be a rider, it would have to be you. I know you can do it.
Don't worry about the runners. Go....impress a dragon, and then you
can come back here and show me the sky."
Senta pats Garwyn's shoulder and beams, "The support of all of us in the
starcraft will be with you, Ursa..."
With a look at Tyrrath as if asking her permission, Ursa finally
scrambles to her feet. She stands as tall as she can, musters all her
courage, and speaks, "I'd be honoured to stand at Benden's sands." She
turns to Garwyn, "Show you the sky?" A broad smile crosses her face as
the irony appeals to her. "If I impress a dragon, I promise, I will."
Senta bounces a little, clapping her hands together and squeezing them!
Tyrrath suddenly rises on her haunches and bugles exultantly, then comes
slamming down with an ear-splitting *THUD*
Ursa yelps!
Garwyn jumps back, the fearfull look coming back over his face.
Senta rushes out of the courtyard, returning with a bag of Ursa's
things. "Here! Hurry!"
Flannery grins happily. "Oh, good! Thank you, Headwoman! You're only
allowed to take one bag of things, Ursa...and you'll be resident at
the weyr for the time of the candiacy..."
Flannery says "I'll buckle in your bag if you'll hop on tyrrath's
back...be sure to buckle yourself in well..."
Ursa watches Tyrrath with a lil concern, then smooths out her features
bravely. She gives Senta an impulsive hug as she takes her bag, and
then another quick hug to Garwyn, her hugs awkward, like she's out of
practise.
Senta hugs Ursa happily, then waves after her as she ascends the lovely
Tyrrath.
Tyrrath
Atop Tyrrath, the immediate view is of a rather vast, dappled-green
expanse, with various scenery beyond. This large, lovely green is fair
of face and of form, with delicate, perfectly balanced proportions, a
head set daintily 'just so'. Beneath you, however, rumbles a creature
of roiling, volatile spirit checked only by the watchful eye of her
lifemate.
You climb up Tyrrath's forelimb to take your place between her
neckridges.
Ursa just looked at the lovely Tyrrath.
Away from Tyrrath, Senta says "Come back to see us...on one of your own,
Ursa!""
Ursa waves, "I'll come see you soon as I can!"
Away from Tyrrath, Flannery waves to Garwyn and Senta. "Thank you both
so much!"
