Family History Feud Activity

Last Saturday, June 9, 2007, the Tooele Valley Regional Family History Center sponsored an event for Family History Consultants, High Priest Group Leaders and Family History Center Staff members and their families. We played Family History Feud. The purpose of this game was to have a fun social where the area consultants and high priest group leaders could meet some of the staff members and become better acquainted. It worked out very well.

This is what we did. We had a family history questionaire that some of our staff members filled out along with those from gospel doctrine classes that were surveyed from their family history consultants. When the family history consultants interviewed their members, they found out that the members were interested in doing family history. Some of them did not know all of the answers, but a great majority wanted to learn more and find out what those answers should be. Our family history consultant in our ward found out what direction she could go with her family history lessons from some of the responses to the last question on the questionaire "What would you like to know about family history?" We have a wonderful family history consultant in our ward.

After acquiring enough questionaires, they were tallied, organized into game rounds, and given to another talented FHC staff member who made a power point presentation similar to what you would see on the Family Feud. He had the noise and the "X" for the wrong answers. Bill Burton teaches computer technology and his expertise made the game seem professional.

Brother  Penovich was our MC. He has quite the sense of humor and kept the game moving right along. We had 4 games with 4 rounds per game. We had 8 people on each family (we're Mormons.) If everyone chose to play, we could have had 64 people play.

They didn't know that they were chosen to play until it was announced after the opening prayer that a card with the Team #1 of Team #2 was written on it with the # of game that they would be playing. Each card had a number 1 - 8. They would take their position at the tables according to that number.

We had approximately 75 - 80 people in attendance. We served cookies and ice cream afterward.

Everyone learned a little something from the answers that were given and had a great time interacting with one another. If anyone would like to use this idea, please pass it along. Family History really is FUN!
