Beware of the Adversary
                                                          by Marsha Thompson Kane

Yes, he lives as surely as you and I
he lives in the hearts of men
he lives through thoughts and words and deeds
that is why I make mention of him

Yes, he lives and he turns the hearts of men to lead
he lives to bring us down
he lives to bring our souls to destruction
he lives to claim his prize

Yes, he lives and his prize is us
children of God - His sons and daughters
he fades the truth until its gone
he blurs our vision till wrong is right and right is wrong

Yes, he lives to confuse us and take away our happiness
he lives to trip us up in our goal to perfection
he lives to give misery and pain and grief
he lives to laugh as he succeeds

Yes, he lives and breeds his doubts
he lives to sow seeds of hate and pride and envy
he lives to mar all that’s good
he lives to canker all that’s pure

Yes, he lives but would convince us otherwise
he lives to lie and cheat and steal
he lives to win our loved ones and our very selves
he lives to fool us as to what is real

Yes, he lives and rejoices in our disobedience
he lives and celebrates our complacency
he lives and revels in our selfishness
he lives and glories in our stubbornness

Yes, he lives and he’s the enemy
But God is our true best friend
Brothers and sisters let us not confuse the two
because when we do it will mean our end.
