As the morning began,
Elder Kelly and Elder George knelt together as companions
and asked Heavenly Father to lead them to those who had been prepared
to hear the
gospel. After spending two or three unsuccessful hours knocking
on doors, they returned to their car knowing they must go somewhere
else.
After deciding to offer another
prayer, they again pleaded with Heavenly Father to
help them to know where to go. When they had concluded their
prayer they sat in their
car, wondering where to go next. As they both looked at a large
apartment building some two miles away by the ocean side, they turned
to each other and said,
"That is where we
are to go."
They quickly drove to the
apartment building and parked their car. It was an
attractive, three-story building. The two missionaries entered
the apartment complex and
began to systematically knock on each apartment door. After
knocking
on every door on
the first floor, they had not found even one person home. They
went to the second floor
and suffered the same results. Both missionaries now doubted
that this was where they
were to be. In fact, they turned to each other and said,
"Let's go."
As they started down
the stairs, however, the Spirit spoke clearly to Elder George's
mind: "Go up to the third floor." Elder George was walking
behind Elder Kelly and they
reached the parking lot before Elder George could get up enough courage
to say, "We need
to go back to the third floor."
To his surprise, Elder Kelly
immediately agreed. They climbed the stairs once again,
this time going to the third floor. Again, as on the other
floors,
no one was home. They
knocked on every door with no success, until there was just one door
left. When they
knocked on this door, to their surprise, the door actually opened and
a man greeted them.
As Elder George introduced Elder Kelly and himself as missionaries
representing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the man
said, "I
know, I saw you come to
my door in a dream. Come in and tell me more."
