Proving the Impossible
by Yuichi Morita Saying that you need a ring to find the card, so you invite a spectator which is wearing a ring come out. If possible, choose a spectator which is wearing a ring with wider band. The spectator is asked to stand besides the magician, and take off the ring. At the same time, you top palm or gambler cop the card and put the deck on the table. Then, you put your hands behind your back, and ask spectator to do the same as you do. Ask the spectator to hold the ring with either hand, and then close both hands with same looking. When you are explaining this, you roll the card into a tube behind your back. To roll the card faster, you should roll the tube at the short end (the length of the tube is along the long side of the card). Hold the tube with left hand. If you hold it into the fist, it will protrude from the fist. so turn the tube 90 degree and hold it along the palm so that the wrist can cover the card. From above, it looks like you are holding the fist only. Then you hold your hand to the front and ask the spectator to do the same. Drop the left hand and you use the right hand to point to either spectator's hand with your intuition. If you point to the hand which is holding the ring, take your applaud; if it doesn't match, say 'not to mention finding your card, it is difficult already for me to pick 1 from 2.' In any case, take the ring from the spectator, and then take at the back of the spectator. Put the card tube inside the ring. Take spectator's either hand and help them to hold the ring with the fingers. Make sure that they will not touch the card accidentally. And then take the remaining hand and make it holding the wrist, so that the hand will not move. Ask any other spectator which the ring is. Whatever the answer is, ask where the signed card is, and then you spread the deck face-up. Ask the ring-holding spectator to use the ring as a scope the find the card. When she holds out the ring, she will be surprised that a card rolled as a tube inside the ring. Other spectator will be surprised by her reaction. Ask her to take the card out the ring and they will find it is the signed card.
