In a Blink: 8 Out of 10

"Coin Fusion", an effect by Chris Stickland, is a refreshingly new gimmicked coin that moves the old bite/tear/poke routines up a notch with some great visuals and a clean appearance.

I'll keep this one brief since the big thing - the coin - I can't really talk about without tipping it. I'll just say that it looks great, is easy to work with, and I, for one, have not seen anything like it.

So, to the effect…

The performer borrows a coin, which is held quite openly at the fingertips. The coin is then quickly ripped into two pieces, torn in two, broken in twain, or however else you want to describe it. The two halves of the coin are displayed at the fingertips: the coin is plainly seen in two pieces. The two pieces are slowly put back together and the coin handed back, restored to it singular self.

This is a very cool thing to see. The visuals really are remarkable and the handling quite simple (the DVD teaches two handlings and both of them are easy to do). This is one trick I'm very happy with, though you'll definitely want to come up with your own presentation to match the visual.

But I always have been. Paul Harris released a routine where a coin was torn and smashed to pieces and I loved it. It's one of those almost-surreal moments that I get a kick out of. For the same reason, I love the "Karate Coin" and probably pretty much all the "human-body-meets-coin-and-coin-loses" plots. "Coin Fusion" is definitely a heavy hitter in that genre and is definitely worth a look if you're after some startling, visual, coin magic.

Oh, before I forget, the coin is available in a variety of styles and currencies, so you might want to check around to see if your particular flavor is in the shops.

This is one I recommend if the plot is something you're intrigued by. "Coin Fusion" does all it can to deliver the look and feel you need to make this work; you just provide the imagination and you could find yourself with a sure-fire winner here.

In a Blink: 8 Out of 10

Practicality: 9
It's a gaffed coin that's got to be rung-in and out, but really that's about the only problem here. The reset is instant, the set-up is non-existant… this packs small and plays big.

Workmanship: 10
This coin is something else. I've never seen one like it. It works beautifully and easily and looks fantastic.

Documentation: 5
The documentation, on DVD, is basic but gets the job done.

Effect: 8
I thought this would fall flat on its face but it plays wonderfully. This is a stunning piece of work.

Presentation: 9
It's all about the visuals and they are beautiful and strong here which accounts for the amount of jaw-dropping this one does.
