The Wonder Lodge was established in 1881 by a group of artists, authors, poets, architects, musicians, philosophers, comedians, and others with the intention to defend ideas, truths, courage, whimsy, delight, joy and the wondrous from the onslaught of sarcasm, cynicism, shallow opinions, and barbarism. The Wonder Lodge strives to champion all that is wondrous and delightful. Members express their opinions and courageously defend that which they love in the face of modern sarcastic attacks in social situations and the media. They serve to balance the increasing trend towards depreciating all that is whimsical, delightful, beautiful, challenging and, indeed, wondrous. Members of the lodge work as a secretive network and support one another vigorously. The physical lodge changes locations on a regular basis and often multiple lodges will operate simultaneously. The lodge serves to champion individuals, organizations and events that promote its ideals. Often this financial and general support is offered anonymously. The Lodge also develops humorous intellectual pranks and general hijinks when it deems individuals or organizations as enemies of wonder. Currently the Wonder Lodge has members in eight countries. Work is continuing to develop suggested reading, music, etc. A hall of fame is also in development. The Wonder Lodge has recently employed a number of researchers to explore strategies employed by individuals and organizations that steal energy and resources of creative individuals. Research is also being done to develop strategies for identifying these individuals and organizations. As research is completed, Wonder Lodge members will be informed on the progress. A larger release to the general public is planned at a later date. The lodge currently is funding advanced research in robotics at an undisclosed location in the western United States. A report on these activities will be released to members as progress is made. A public release of results is expected in early 2008 or sooner. The Lodge continues to fund a cartography team that has been creating a detailed map of a large wilderness region around Lake Corot. They have also been working on documenting the flora and fauna of this remote area and its unusual inhabitants. Lodge members can expect sporadic reports on this endeavor as it continues and as new discoveries are uncovered. Work continues on design of Wonder Lodge items and souvenirs. Several members have requested such items and they are in production.
