Double Fudge Brownies

1/2 cups    Sugar
2 Tbs    Butter or margarine
2 tbs    Water
2 cups    Semi-sweet chocolate chips
2   Eggs, beaten
1 tsp    Vanilla
2/3 cups    Flour
1/4 tsp    Baking soda
1/4 tsp    Salt
1/2 cups    Chopped nuts (optional)

1 Combine sugar, butter or margarine and water in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirrring constantly, until mixture comes to a full boil. Remove from heat: immediately add 1 c of the chocolate chips and stir until melted.
2 Add eggs and vanilla; stir until blended. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add to chocolate mixture. Stir in remaining 1 cup chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. Pour into a greased 9-inch square pan.
3 Bake at 325° for 25-30 minutes. Cool completely; cut into bars. About 1-1/2 dozen.
