Combine sugar, butter or margarine and water in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirrring constantly, until mixture comes to a full boil. Remove from heat: immediately add 1 c of the chocolate chips and stir until melted. |

Add eggs and vanilla; stir until blended. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add to chocolate mixture. Stir in remaining 1 cup chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. Pour into a greased 9-inch square pan. |

Bake at 325° for 25-30 minutes. Cool completely; cut into bars. About 1-1/2 dozen. |
