Gorditas
 
 
1 lb    Masa, fresh  
1/2 tsp    Salt  
1 tsp    Baking powder  
  Chicken  
  Potatoes  
  Lettuce, Tomatoes  
  Cheese  
  Beans  
 
1 Mix fresh masa with baking powder and salt. Shape into round patties and deep fry in shortening or lard until lightly brown. Drain, slit and fill with taco filing; shredded lettuce, tomatoes, chicken, beans or potatoes and cheese.
2 Gorditas may be cooked on the griddle if desired instead of fried.
