Combine sugar and shortening in large bowl. Beat until well blended.
Add eggs, syrup, and vanilla. Beat until well blended and fluffy. |

Combine flour, powder, and soda. Add to creamed mixture. |

Divide dough into 4 quarters. If dough is too sticky. Wrap each quarter with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour. |

Spread 1 Tbsp flour on large sheet of waxed paper. Place dough on paper and flatten slightly with hands. Place another piece of waxed paper over dough. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out shapes; then transfer to ungreased baking sheet. Place 2 inches apart. |

Bake at 375° for 5-9 minutes. |
