Bums on the Plush is a working class version of The Traveling Wilburys.
The name Bums on the Plush comes from an old poem The Two Bums that my father
would recite from time to time during his shows. I am keenly aware that my
opportunity to travel, meet folks and do what I do is in part because of the long years,
hard miles, blood sweat and tears put in by my father and his elders that led they way.
This e-mail explains what it is that we do on stage better than I ever can.
Good morning everyone, I just wanted to thank Duncan, not only for the show last
night at Coalesce but for his wonderful and heartfelt tribute to "Utah Phillips".
Admittedly, I knew very little about Utah Phillips but knew "Moose Turd Pie" was not
the extent of his work :~) The tribute was masterfully performed and expressed
beautiful connections between father and son, people and places, and humanity and
music. I told a friend that the only way I could describe it was the best of Steinbeck
put to music. Duncan said he wasn't much of a singer or guitar player but he is
definitely a teller of stories and without stories, music might only be sound.
Don't miss this tribute! Thank you Duncan for sharing.
