On his birthday, George Malley (John Travolta) is accosted by lights from the sky. Immediately he begins to develop new talents, a voracious appetite for learning, and clarity of thought. Frustrated by his inability to connect with anyone who can appreciate his revolutionary ideas, George finds solace in the pursuit of a lovely, but seemingly unattainable woman named Lace (Kyra Sedgewick). Eventually, a simpler explanation for his condition is exposed, one which threatens his life.
Phenomenon is subtle, sweet feel good film. It has lessons to teach and ideals to expound, but it does so in a loving way. With its message of hope for humanity and the endurance of the human spirit, the film is suitable for, and recommended to, the entire family.
