PROPHECY

Stars: Christopher Walken, Elias Koteas, Eric Stoltz, Virginia Madsen. Rated R for violence, profanity, adult themes.

According to "Prophecy", a second angel war is currently raging on in heaven. Gabriel (Christopher Walken) is the leader of the "bad" angels, who don't like the fact that human beings have souls and they don't. Angels don't know very much about warfare, so Gabriel seeks to capture the soul of a heartless colonel who died recently to end the stalemate in heaven. Simon (Eric Stoltz), a "good" angel tries to stop him by taking the officer's soul and placing it into a young native American girl.

A cop (Elias Koteas) and the girl's teacher (Virginia Madsen) figure out what is going on and try to prevent the catastrophe that could ensue. Helping them is Lucifer who, it turns out, is on the side of the "good" angels because he doesn't want heaven to turn into a second hell and diminish his power.

And I thought "Lord of Illusions" was a pathetic horror film. Despite such name actors as Eric Stoltz and Christopher Walken, "Prophecy" is a muddled mess. Angels as scumbags; who'd have thought it?
