***** WEIRD MOVIE QUOTE OF THE DAY *****
"Pa would have hocked the tool kit to buy Emmett that guitar!"
Ma Otter, EMMETT OTTER'S JUG BAND CHRISTMAS

***** WEIRD MOVIE FACTS FOR YOUR READIN' PLEASURE *****

  • Al Pacino was reportedly only paid $35,000 for his work on the first GODFATHER film. In comparison, Gary Coleman was getting more than this for his weekly appearances on the TV show "Diff'rent Strokes".

  • Notice how in Godfather I, Brando's Vito Corleone has a heart attack with a piece of orange in his mouth, while as GODFATHER III's epilogue closes, Pacino's Michael Corleone falls off his chair, dropping an orange himself. What is the significance, covert product placement by Anita Bryant, perhaps?

  • Spike Lee cast then unknown Rosie Perez in his film DO THE RIGHT THING after seeing how great she looked and danced at a club. Larry Fishburne was approached to play Radio Raheem, but refused the part.

  • Blame the sequel (Hell, I like 'em as long as there ain't kids playing hockey in 'em) on Rudloph Valentino, who's SON OF THE SHEIK (1921) was the first, following up the previous year's hit THE SHEIK. Valentino's funeral was among the largest attended ever.

  • Christopher Walken's character "Max Schreck" in BATMAN RETURNS is named in homage to the star of the original NOSFERATU (which has some of the creepiest scenes ever filmed, BTW). Also catch Paul "Pee-Wee Herman" Reubens as The Penguin's dad in the opening sequence of the film.

    *WEIRD CHRISTMAS REVIEWS

A YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS (@$12.99 SUNCOAST MOTION PICTURE CO/MUSICLAND) Boy, you can't beat these Rankin-Bass puppet specials for cool Christmastime fun. This one is one of the least-played on TV, and in my opinion, the best of them all. Santa's pretty sick, and he decides to take Christmas off this year so he can recover. Mrs. Claus (with the voice of Shirley "Hazel" Booth, decides to put her two elves to work to make sure the children around the world aren't let down. Along the way, though, they run in to the mean Mr. Heatmeiser and Mr. Coldmeiser, who sing some of the coolest songs around.
