WEIRD MOVIE QUOTES O' THE DAY
"I'm the patron saint of mediocrity"
        -Salieri in AMADEUS

"...the one time I felt a genuine imagination at work."
        -Screenwriter William Goldman on BABE

WEIRD MOVIE FACTS
(save 'em & trade 'em)

  • BABE was written an produced by George Miller, the same fellow who brought you that other charmingly cute film, MAD MAX. According to "People Magazine", Babe was actually played by 48 different Large White Yorkshire breed pigs. After just three weeks, each would become too big to use.

  • Want to visit the real location of the Tangiers in Martin Scorsese's CASINO? Check out the Riveria in Las Vegas, where a large sectino of blackjack tables were used during after hours filming. Maybe if you're nice, an employee might point it out to you. Just don't cheat, cause they'll bring out the hammer.

  • Oliver Stone actually purchased an entire copy of the famous Zapruder JFK assasination film for use in JFK, because he wanted to make sure he had everything available to play with. On a somewhat similar note, Spike Lee had to pay a pretty penny after the fact, in order to use the Rodney King beating video during the opening credits of X.

  • A sequel to THE BLUES BROTHERS is supposedly in the works, with Dan Aykroyd reprising his role as ELWOOD. As John Belushi's character "Jake" has died in prison, Akroyd will team with...JIM BELUSHI! If they can get another John Lee Hooker cameo, it may be somewhat watchable. Sharp eyed fans of the original will notice Steven Spielberg playing the Cook County Clerk near the end of the film.

A VIRTUAL HORN O' PLENTY O' WEIRD WEB SITES

  • CHUCK FARNHAM'S WEIRD WORLD
    http://www.hooked.net/alex/people/chuck/index.html

This one's certainly one of the sickest sites I've ever found, but it's got so much weird stuff, it puts me to shame. Parents, hide your children from this one. Just a sample of the wacky shit in here include:

  • PETER SELLER'S HOMEPAGE
    http://pages.nyu.edu/~jms8142

Just a filmography and photos, but it's nice if you enjoy Seller's work.

  • MOVIE POSTER THUMBNAILS
    http://www.musicman.com/mp/mp1.html

View lots and lots of classic and newer movie posters on your computer. All of the pics are still html format, so you'll have to be creative to figure out how to cut and paste them into other things.

  • JANE AUSTEN INFO PAGE
    http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/%7Echurchh/janeinfo.html#janetoc

Do the sensible thing and check out this mega-big page devoted to Miss Austen. Lots of hypertext versions of her work to read on line (or save to your computer and read later). She's been dead a super long time, so she can't sue ya for copyright infringement.

WEIRD MOVIE STUFF QUESTION O' THE ISSUE (explore your feelings)

    FAMOUS ON SCREEN CAR CHASES

What are some of your favorite car chases on film? I'd throw in the following for consideration.

  • The outrageously long, cartoony, and funny sequence in THE BLUES BROTHERS. Anybody know how many cars they wrecked for this? The scene where they're cruising inside of the shopping mall is classic!

  • TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA has a great chase, which features an extremely tense stretch against opposing traffic on an LA highway.

  • DEEP COVER doesn't have too many chases, but there's one that culminates in a tunnel that's too good to blow the surprise here.

  • CANNONBALL RUN...c'mon, you know you really liked it.

  • HERBIE GOES BANANAS...that cute bug + bananas = movie DEEEEElite

THAT'S IT! Go out and play!
