WEIRD MOVIE FACTS (save up 7 and win a trip to Boise)

  • In the Elizabeth Shue film ADVENTURES in BABYSITTING, The Rolling Stones' tune "Gimme Shelter" was used, but Disney ordered an edit of the song to delete out the "rape...murder...it's just a shot away" lines before it was included. (TRIVIA BONUS...what Norse God did the little girl idolize in this film?) By the way, have you heard the Natalie Merchant cover of "Sympathy for The Devil"... aaaiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeee!!! Wretched stuff!

  • Roman Coppola, son of Francis Ford Coppola, directs the latest video from THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, "Peaches." Meanwhile, John and Bo Derek are busy these days producing and directing country music videos.

  • George Lucas has not directed a film in nearly 19 years, with STAR WARS (1977) being his last actively directed movie. According to HEARTS OF DARKNESS, Lucas was an early choice to direct APOCALYPSE NOW. Just think how exciting that Brando vs Sheen lightsabre duel would have been! Lucas is still enjoying wild success with the resurgence of STAR WARS popularity, an upcoming trilogy (believe it when I see it), and of course Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasarts Software, and THX Sound.

  • Andie Macdowall's voice was completely re-dubbed by a different actress for GREYSTOKE: THE LEGEND OF TARZAN (which I feel Chris Lambert should do a sequel of instead of all this HIGHLANDER tomfoolery!) because the director felt her voice was just too unbelievable for the English-born character of Jane (Too bad they couldn't get another woman to dub over her acting as well). Did you also know that the city of Tarzana in California is actually named after Tarzan? Who were your favorite screen Tarzans? I'd have to say Johnny Weismuller all the way! (with Lambert a close second) I saw a bunch of pre-production preview for some 20th Century Fox film which light-heartedly promises "Tarzan as you've never seen him before!" All I could do was close my eyes and pray, "Please don't be a Pauly Shore movie! Please don't be a Pauly Shore movie!"

    WEIRD MOVIE STUFF PUZZLE CORNER
"Women In Prison Film Title Word Find"

Women in Prison films are as time honored and respected of a genre as Westerns, Love Stories, and Hockey Mask slasher flicks. Helping to launch the careers of the likes of Sybill Danning, Jonathan Demme, and Wendy O. Williams, women in prison films have a very important lesson to teach (Basically, that most women in prison are sex-starved lesbians). I realize that some of you may have mail formats which screws the spacing of the letters up, so for this, I apologize.

What's interesting is that to the best of my knowledge, there's never been a women in prison film that has not been some sort of exploitation flick made for and by men. Anybody know of any?

An interesting aside...when the FOX network first made its debut, one of the early series was WOMEN IN PRISON, which lasted about 6 episodes. This was basically as bad as most of the films listed above. The humor was pretty thick on how horny these women were, and the wacky and HI-larious situations these tuff ladies would get into. Wendy Jo Sperber was one of the stars in this Corman-ish display of goofy tasteless jail-house hijinks. Anybody got it on video?
