ROBERT BERRY'S
WEIRD MOVIE STUFF #5

                MOVIE QUOTE OF THE DAY

"We are all interested in the future,
for that is where we are going to spend the rest of our lives."
        -Plan 9 From Outer Space

WEIRD MOVIE FACTS O' THE DAY

  • Matt Dillon was originally intended to play Pino in Spike Lee's DO THE RIGHT THING before John Turturro was cast. Robert DeNiro was also the intended "Sal" which Danny Aielo played. DeNiro and Lee sort of almost crossed paths again in CLOCKERS, which was originally a Scorcese/DeNiro vehicle, but as they both went to CASINO instead, Lee got Keitel.

  • DO THE RIGHT THING contains a great homage to NIGHT OF THE HUNTER where Radio Raheem gaves the whole "love/hate" speech complete with brass replica's of Mitchum's finger tatoos.

  • Sean Penn was originally cast as Henry Chinaski, the role that ultimately became Mickey Rourke's in BARFLY.

  • Unused footage from THE SHINING is used at the end of BLADERUNNER.

THE ABOMINABLE DR PHIBES/DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN
Starring Vincent Price, Joseph Cotten, Robert Quarry, Peter Cushing

Those of you that have seen SEVEN may be surprised to know that killing off folks based on 7 Deadly Sins was certainly not the most inspired of ideas, as the Phibes films feature Vincent Price as a dead/undead ghoul who takes revenge on the team of doctors that failed to save his wife's life by kiiling them off in the style of the plagues that struck the Pharoah in ancient Egypt. The sets and costumes work very well, and the whole mood of each film has a strange aura about it. One of Price's better roles, you can tell he really seems to be having a lot of fun with the part. Check these out together. Both of them should be available in digitally remastered form for a cheap $9.99 each at Suncoast.
