"You would be expiating a burden on me. The benefit to you offers me a modicum of consolation.."
Celeste appeared to consider his words for a time before responding. "What was your sister's name?."
"Amberlynn." he replied with reverential decree.
"May I do her memory honor in accepting this gift."
"The honor is mine m'lady." He bowed courteously, loose strands of his hair sliding to rest over his eyes.
"Shop keeper, I did not mean to interrupt. Your magnificent coat of mail would be a worthy addition to my largesse.." The segue was abrupt. The traveller met is gaze with knowing aplomb.
Sensing the opportunity to reclaim his ebbing sale Denton amended the proclamation of the other. He continued to attend his client eventually concluding the transaction satisfactorily.
Once Signora Rahmel departed Denton looked for the traveller and found him no where in the shop. Bemused he continued about his duties. The wagons were now positioned at the rear entrance to the storage room. There would be several hours of labor ahead to move the good from the wagons to the storage room. Perhaps some of the local boys would be interested in earning a few coins for their labor. A quick visit to the blacksmith should yield the numbers needed to make short work of the task.
Later when he was stalking items from the back room he realized that he had never heard the bell chime at the traveler's departure. Had he missed it? No--he was too attuned to the sound. It was the sound of commerce.
