Note: The decision that Stephen Atwood is the son of John Atwood and Joan Coleson is based upon statements made by the compiler of the book, "Ye Atte Wode Annals" on page 7 and 9, pt 1. He states that is no doubt of the connection, but does not state the specific sources or reasons upon which this conclusion is based. However, in general the compiler has used very good original source material, though there are several errors in the dates, so slight, however, that they are probably transcription errors by the copyist.
