Go in Ryoko Owari: The Travel Journal of Katai

Coming to Ryoko Owari with Doji Tatsuya-sama is full of surprises. I am never particularly excited to come to Scorpion lands. Everything they stand for is nearly anathema to me. If they were not Rokugani then I would send them back to the Burning Sands myself. At least they have always been a part of Rokugan and have their place here like all the other Great Clans do.

Ryoko Owari on the other hand is not quite what I thought it to be. Sure it is the den of iniquity that reputable samurai claim it to be, particularly Crane of high standing. But nonetheless it is a major stop on our travels to Unicorn lands. What is in store waiting for me there, I can never guess. Will all Unicorn seem to be brutish as Shinjo Yul has proven to be? Although, somewhat dim witted, especially compared to a Crane, he is a descent fellow. I shouldn't judge his character too much since I will have to spend the next couple months with his fellow clansmen.

Back here in Ryoko Owari, I found some small vice to keep out of trouble, or at least greater trouble. There are others here enjoy the fineries of Go. Of those who have to work enjoy Go in their off hours. Now, there was that scoundrel who weaseled that fine Go set from me two days ago. Obviously he cheated it from me, ruffians pretend to play Go, not master it like me a Crane. Alas, it was a very fine Go set, the pebbles were polished smooth on the thighs of beautiful Yasuki virgins from the southern Crane lands. This is what the merchant said, plus the Go set was crafted by Kakita artisans, no doubt the greatest artisans found in all of Lady Moon's creations.

Well such ruffians surely don't know what they are looking at or holding in their grimy Scorpion filth hands. They are peasants who have to work, and their hands are probbably roughened. No fine Go set will survive such abuse. I will take it upon myself to find this set and get it back in whatever way seems fitting. Of course I must act honorably in accordance with my own self, not that their honor matters, and get it back in a fair manner.

Dealing with the rabble here in Ryoko Owari is more trouble than it is worth. Oh if I could just be in Kyuden Doji, or at Shiro sano Kakita, the land of perfection. Even the heimin are beautiful to look upon there. In Crane lands we do not allow anyone to go about looking ugly, but rather as beautiful as their place should be in the Celestial Hierarchy.

Interestingly enough, since I have ran into my previous traveling companions here at Ryoko Owari, I have to admit that the best company I have had is spending time with Shosuro Ridachi-san. Amazing, a Scorpion makes better company than an Isawa and a Seppun. By the way, note to self: This Nikana and Takako thing is pretty weird, better keep my distance from those two when they are together.

Oh yeah. While I was here there was the Festival of the Chrysanthemum, but I was too busy with more important matters to participate in the festivities.
