The daimyo of the Crane village of Mura Howaido Yuukaku (White Orchid Village). He initiated negotiations with a new gaijin faction when their ship washed up in the bay controlled by his village. He decided to use the annual White Orchid Festival to select several samurai to carry out the tasks associated with the gaijin. He was killed in an ambush by rogue Tsuruchi warriors while en route to Kyuden Doji to present the gaijin to Doji Kurohito.
Doji Shiju's karo. He led the Crane forces at the Battle of Howaido Yuukaku Doro against a Lion force led by Matsu Goto.
A participant in the White Orchid Festival. He had come to consider himself a failure because of cowardice, but a conversation with Shosuro Ridachi restored his belief in his own worth. Currently assumed to be back on duty at or beyond the Carpenter Wall.
A participant in the White Orchid Festival, and winner of the Courtier prize. She was part of the Lion force at the Battle of Howaido Yuukaku Doro, and acted as Matsu Goto's spokesman during the preliminary stages of the conflict. She became very friendly with Shosuro Ridachi during the festival.
A participant in the White Orchid Festival. He was actually attending so he could investigate an opium dealer, and discovered Doji Shiju's dealings with the gaijin. He presented his evidence to Matsu Goto, and then joined the army Goto assembled to invade Shiju's lands. He was killed in the Battle of Howaido Yuukaku Doro by Shinjo Yul, with whom he had formed a rivalry during the festival.
A participant in the White Orchid Festival. She and Kitsuki Shaiyan had developed feelings for each other during the course of the festival. She was in Ryoko Owari Toshi at the time Shaiyan was killed there, and was warned by him to avoid certain parts of the city, as well as to remain in the city on the day of the maho festival celebrating Fu Leng's fall.
A ronin thought to have once been from the Phoenix clan. He was killed in a Crane roadside inn by a swarm of gaki-mosquitoes that had resulted from the murder of a Unicorn merchant. His blades are currently being carried and used by Shosuro Ridachi, who had befriended him the evening before his death and had contracted him to accompany Ridachi to Otosan Uchi.
The Rememberer of the Missing Toe Tribe Nezumi, who live in the ruins of Otosan Uchi. In conversations with Yotsu Seiko, Riep'i'tch'iep revealed the location of a shrine in the Shadowlands that housed an object that turned out to be Misako's Kaiken, a legendary lost nemuranai. Later, he agreed to lead the PCs into the Shadowlands and guide them to the shrine, where the nemuranai was recovered.
A ronin in Otosan Uchi, who is becoming renowned for his politeness, both to other samurai and the local Nezumi tribe. He has worked closely with Riep'i'tch'iep in forming a strong alliance, aimed at protecting the inhabitants of Otosan Uchi from the remants of the Shadowlands forces still within the ruined city.
A Lion general. He led an army into Crane lands on the word of Tsuruchi Iesada, who had obtained evidence that Doji Shiju was dealing with gaijin. After losing the Battle of Howaido Yuukaku Doro, he committed sepukku.
The captain of the gaijin ship Erasmus. He voyaged to Rokugan with several purposes. First, he wished to recover the Cross of Merenae, and artifact of great importance to his people. Second, he wished to open trade and diplomatic relations with the Empire. His tasks were both successful.
A gaijin priest who accompanied Captain Postma on his voyage. His knowledge of Rokugani language and custom allowed him to act as translator and social guide for Captain Postma. He was wounded in the same ambush that killed Doji Shiju.
Crane Clan Champion. He agreed to present the case of the gaijin to the Emperor after Doji Shiju was killed in an ambush. He later asked several of the PCs to journey to Kyuden Hida, and from there into the Shadowlands, to retrieve Misako's Kaiken, a lost nemuranai once used by the Crab to remove the Taint from individuals.
The chief Crab shugenja in Ryoko Owari Toshi. She was responsible for destroying a shrine to Fu Leng, cleaning up the lair of Naganori after he was killed, and leading an attack on the maho festival celebrating Fu Leng's fall. After determining that Kakita Katai had contracted the Taint, she recommended that he be sent to Carpenter Wall.
The maho-tsukai who killed Kistuki Shaiyan's father. The desire to kill Naganori caused Shaiyan to abandon his duty, and eventually led to Shaiyan becoming a maho-tsukai himeslf. Naganori was killed in Ryoko Owari Toshi by Kakita Katai.
Mirumoto Tetsujin's eldest brother, and trained in the Mirumoto Swordmaster duelling school. He harbors an intense dislike of Tetsujin. Currently heading the Dragon's delegation to Winter Court.
An ise zumi from the Dragon Clan. Acting on information from the Thunder Dragon, she killed Seppun Takako two days after her marriage to Seppun Nikana, and was then killed by Nikana and Shinjo Yul.
A Lion samurai who participated in the Battle of Howaido Yuukaku Doro. In the battle, he beat Shosuro Ridachi senseless after being disarmed by him, twice. Currently present at Winter Court.
One of the Scorpion shugenja attending Winter Court, now married to Shinjo Yul.
The Emperor sat in judgement over those involved in the assassination of Seppun Takako or the aftermath. After confirming Shosuro Ridachi as a samurai, he elevated Seppun Nikana to the rank of Emerald Magistrate and charged him with determining more of the nature of the threat posed by Takako's son.
