Hellfire 12 flight of ASP

The ASP flew at Hellfire 12 on July 16, 2006 on a Hypertek L hybrid motor, and was successfully recovered. Way to go, team! Anticipated altitude was 6000 feet AGL, but early deployment cut things short at about 1000 feet. Mach holdoff wasn't set on either altimeter, which is advisable due to vibrations set up by hybrid motors. This was our best guess as to the cause of the false detection of apogee. Nonetheless, sturdy construction and beefy recovery rigging prevented damage even though separation happened under thrust. One fin tip suffered minor damage on landing.

Thanks to Mitch Adamson for contributing to the purchase of the fuel grain and loan of the Hypertek 75mm/2.8liter motor, and his vital knowledge of hybrids. Also thanks to Andy Woerner of What's Up Hobbies for the loan of that beautiful red and white 16-foot parachute.
