  1. Shakin All Over / Live at the Fillmore East
    From: b0rn2run@aol.com
    Date: Tue, 02 Aug 94 06:19:03 EDT
Recording: exceptional stereo, mastered from the two-track master tapes
Source: Fillmore East, April 5th, 1968
Comments: The Who's 4/5/68 performance at the Fillmore East is probably one of their most heavily booted shows, but what had been a legendary vinyl boot was always very disappointing on CD --- until now, that is. With the release of Shakin All Over/Live at the Fillmore East, the show has finally received the treatment it deserves. ICE reports that this CD was mastered from the two-track master tapes, and that may indeed be the case. Although the recording is not perfect (there are a few crackles here and there, as was the case with Live at Leeds), it is in stereo and the quality is truly exceptional for a twenty-six year old recording of a VERY LOUD show. The only big flaw (which I presume is on the original tape, since it was also earlier boots I had) is a fade-out on Relax and an incomplete A Quick One (it starts at the Bang Bang part).

    From: Wes Biggs <wbiggs@chaph.usc.edu>
    Date: Fri, 7 Oct 94 21:46:37 PDT
Recording: Stereo, very good sound quality. Most of this seems to be continuous -- no breaks between songs.
Comments: Mojo seems to be an Australian company selling mass-market bootlegs (same as Joker Productions -- I got both CDs for five bucks each), so these may be unavailable outside Australia.

  32. Who Is Tommy? (Dynamite Studio, DS94A077, DS94A078) double
    Date: Mon, 10 Oct 1994 18:42:37 -0400 (EDT)
    From: Joseph Grimes <jgg@iac.net>
Recording: Mono, poor to medium; Disc 2 is an audience recording, vocals, drums and bass pretty clear but guitar pretty low. This cd can be EQ'd to sound decent. Worth it for rare versions of The Seeker and Water.
Source: Disc 1, various - Disc 2, Dallas, Convention Center, June 19th, 1970
Comments: The first cd is labeled Leeds 1970, but probably isn't because it has 2 versions of Can't Explain, 3 versions of Fortune Teller, and 3 Young Man Blues. Actually 2 of the Fortune Tellers are the same but the tape is running at different speeds! Some of this is probably from Leeds, including Sparks, Heaven & Hell, Fortune Teller and Tattoo. Tape speed is suspect. Pretty much a hatchet job and a rip off! My copy didn't have any booklet. All instruments are evenly mixed.

The second cd is a fair quality audience tape of Dallas, June 19th, 1970. The date is probably accurate because RD mentions that The Seeker was their last single. He says it climbed the charts like "an elephant climbing a ladder." I don't think they played this much in concert. RD also says Water was recorded right before the tour. Lots of between song talk, and KM introduces Can't Explain.

Comments: The ULTIMATE rip-off CD. Avoid at all costs. All tracks are from regular live sources with extra applause dubbed on --OG. The picture on the cover is from the 1979-1981 period (KJ on drums, RD's mod cut). There is so much mechanical noise and other crap you can barely tell what song they're playing and almost all of the dialog between songs is washed out.

  45. Farewell Tour (Flashback FLA 200, Germany) (74:29)
From: Rich Thomson <rthomson@ptc.es.com> and John Johanneson <johanneson@macc.wisc.edu>
    Date: Tue Nov 15 11:28:00 MST 1994
Source: Toronto, Canada, December 17th, 1982
Recording: Excellent quality; as good as Who's Last
Comments: RT found this in the CD Now! catalog, under "imports" for The Who; JJ provided the track list and the following description: The whole concert was broadcast live over the radio, and this CD must have been made from the master tapes of the broadcast as its quality is as good as Who's Last. "Drowned" is an excellent extended version (8:08) with PT on vocals. I only wish that they'd included the verison of "Love Ain't For Keeping" they played that night as it too was superb.
