Harold served in World War II, but died of a
heart attack while serving in Naples, Italy.
He never married.
His obituary, from Council Bluff (Iowa)
Nonpariel - Nov 30 1948 reads:
"Sgt. Harold Meng
RED OAK -
Funeral services were held at the Perryman chapel for Sgt. Harold Meng, 37,
who died Jan. 20, 1945, at Naples, Italy. The Rev. Richard Chambers officiated.
Burial was in Evergreen cemetery with American Legion and Veterans of
Foreign Wars
performing graveside rites.
Sgt. Meng was born in Red
Oak Nov. 11, 1907, the son of John and Katherine Meng. He was
one of 12
children. In 1929 he moved to Chicago. He went to Los Angeles, Calif., as a
Goodyear
Rubber corporation employe [sic] in 1937. He went overseas in
1944 with the army air forces.
Survivors are one brother, Jacob Meng of
Baker, Ore.; and a sister, Mrs. Helene M. Aron."
