Hi Larry,

Three things come to mind in regard to being stopped out 50% of the time:

(1) The best way to learn from this is to look at the trade and ask some
hard questions: Did I do my homework before buying the stock? Did I buy it
at the right time, or was it too far extended from its base to be a low risk
entry? Did I evaluate the rest of the group to be sure that other stocks in
the group were healthy? Was it a sound breakout from a sound base? This kind
of analysis is tough, because you are grading yourself. But no body looks at
the grades but you (thank goodness Mom doesn't have to sign off this time),
and the reward that you get for good grades is money in the bank. Your goal
should be 80 or 90% success rate. But this is subordinated to the overall
growth of the equity in your account at some % comfortable to you. See #2.

(2) Even if you've done all the right things and selected "a good stock"
you're still playing a game of odds. Sometimes you turn up tails. Just the
way it is. If you can grade yourself and give it an "A" and you still get
stopped out. Well, assuming you've practiced good money management, there's
still capital to go on to the next trade. Remember that when you toss a
coin, the odds are 50/50 head/tails, but you could easily turn up tails 10
times in a row before seeing a head.

(3) Sometimes getting stopped out of what may, after careful analysis, seem
to be "a good stock" means the market is just not ready.

Katherine
