The Vix is an index that measures volatility as indicated by OEX options. = When the value of the Vix is low, around the 20 area, lately 22, it indicates too m= uch complacency in the market. The Vix tends to fall as the market goes up, a= nd rise in down markets. We recently had a drop in the market without a correspondin= g rise in the Vix. When you see that reading get too low, it is at least a warni= ng sign short term to be careful. This link provides a better explanation - http://www.stockcharts.com/education/What/IndicatorAnalysis/indic_VIX.html To see a chart, go to - http://stockcharts.com/index.html and use the symbol $vix. Best thing would be if you can overlay it on an= index, like the S&P, but I don't know which sites have that capability.
