Hi Duke,
The MSN Screener is a bit frustrating in that it limits you to 100 names =
and then chooses to display only the top 100 based on its own ranking =
system. I've read the description of their numbers, but still wish =
they'd either let you return all the values or choose which 100 you want =
based on other criteria. Maybe someone else here knows the secret trick =
to make that happen! But in the meantime, at least you can sort the =
results in Excel as you suggest.
I think you're right that prescreening based on *all* the CANSLIM =
requirements for fundamental growth, etc. is restrictive and will yield =
few results. I'm not sure exactly what requirements you used in the =
screener, but after a long downturn in the market and a mini-recession =
over the last year or so, it's going to be hard to find stocks that have =
QoQ growth in both EPS and Revs per the party line. I've been completely =
eliminating all but forward growth in my fundamental screening for the =
time being and letting technicals lead me to the stocks and groups that =
are moving. Once I get those guys in my sights, I'm then running some =
fundamental screens. That's allowed me to focus in on potential =
candidates and work on due diligence while the market sorts itself out. =
I noticed in doing my work this weekend that value still continues to =
rule. That means CANSLIM growth stocks meeting both fundamental *and* =
technical requirements are going to be few and far between. From what I =
see, most of the really strong stocks fundamentally are still =
base-building. When the market's right, these guys will start breaking =
out one after the other. In the meantime, there's a steadily increasing =
number of new highs and decreasing numbers of new lows. We're on the =
right track, anyway!

Good morning, Katherine:
I just discovered the power of the MSN MoneyCentral screener this =
weekend. I'm curious about the RANK column. After poking through a =
screen I did, it turns out it ranked Market Cap. Is that always the =
case, or can you tell it which column to rank? Not that it's that =
important since you can sort your columns off in Excel!
Combining MSN screen with the screening function at CSFBdirect, my =
online brokerage, I worked over about 2800 stocks this weekend; came up =
with about 20 "potentials"; got NO buys. Is it me, or is CANSLIM so =
refined no stocks will meet the criteria?!?!
Duke

Larry,
Good news...you can set up your watchlist in the MSN MoneyCentral =
stock screener. When you run any scan, the results for your watchlist =
will also show. Just set up the display so that it shows 50 and 200 day =
moving averages. Results can then be exported to Excel.

I've uploaded a screen capture that shows how you would set up the =
screener to:
http://WallStreet-LLC.com/pub/MSNScreener.jpg

Does anyone know of a Internet sight or investment sight where =
I can
scan a portfolio to see if the stocks are over or under their 50 =
day
average? YAHOO will do this but, you have to put the stock symbols =
in
each time. My list is about 75 stocks.
thanks for any help. Larry
