I use Brown and Datek and love them both. I've been using Brown for years.
Commissions are cheap ($5 market, $10 Limit) with no add on charges, fills
are instant, website is extremely reliable and fast. I've never had to call
and place a trade, but when I have called they pick up very fast. Short
supply is excellent. I like for my broker to basically be invisible to me.
In other words, I can do what I want when I want without any headaches.
That's Brown. I'm new to Datek, which is where I have my IRA accounts.
Very satisfied so far. Love the real time streaming quotes. I use Medved
Quotetracker which I can link to Datek. You can even trade through Medved.
I couldn't be happier with my choices.

I've never noticed any problems with bid/ask spreads. I'm usually watching
real time quotes when I trade and I can see my trade instantly. It goes off
at the ask, which is what I want. Limit orders also work great.

Rob
