Welcome out of lurker mode.   To answer your question below; I
wouldn't worry about the traders manipulating the prices unless you
are buying in decent quantity.  

I've tried setting a mental note, and also tried entering a firm stop
loss.   I've found that by setting a mental note alone it is too easy
to rationalize keeping the stock.   Or, say it was down 6% from the
buy point at the start of the day - at the close, it might be down
16% - and now what could have been an 8% loss becomes twice that.  
Unless one can watch constantly, its often hard to sell at the right
time.
