Tim, If you discovered the hole causing all the spam, I owe you my next hot stock pick!! Even if you don't want it! I am convinced that MSN either has a similar security breach, or is selling hotmail addresses. Within only several hours of setting up an account there, spam was flooding in. And continues to this day, even tho I just delete it. Amazing how these guys operate. I have been getting so much spam that I just delete it, didn't even bother trying to figure out why. Actually, I like those Nigeria "gotta secretly move big money out of the country" bank acct # cons. Some are actually pretty creative. Of course, they will cost you major losses if you are naive enough, or greedy enough, to believe any of them. I have the Secret Service in my address book, and just forward them on. SS is interested, but don't know if they are really doing anything about them. P.S. I think I found a security hole in xmission server that may get fixed thanks to Jeff. Seems the spammers were using a bot to harvest the emails from xmission lists, then spamming right back through the server. I figured this out by accident as I had changed my username to thwart spam and 90% of the spam that still came through after the change was from xmission.com. Theorerically only the lists and other select people who know my real username should have been able to send me mail over the weekend when my ISP broke the link from my domain orerockon.com to my real account name. I had been bounced from this list and resub$cribed; they got my email address immediately and started sending spam that day. So instead of just list messages all that mail got through and a dozen spams as well. Anyway your spam load should drop soon if you were the victim of this (if the xmission folks can figure it all out). What got me looking at full headers was the fact that it was all stock-related spam, not the usual my brother the king of Nigeria needs you bank account number crap. - - - -To subscribe/unsubscribe, email "majordomo@xmission.com" - -In the email body, write "subscribe canslim" or - -"unsubscribe canslim".
