Hi Larry,

The WON party line is that you should focus your attention on the top =
20% of the 197 industry groups. (The rankings are derived from relative =
group action over the previous 6 months.) But there are numerous =
articles which have been in the IBD over time which suggest you should =
also watch industries moving quickly up the ranks. If I were to put a =
bottom line on it, I'd say that the ultimate goal is to focus your =
attention on the individual stocks that are strongest and are setting up =
in sound bases. To get there, you can focus on individual stock ratings =
such as EPS, RS, A/D and/or SMR or you can focus on strong and rising =
industries and then hone in on the strongest stocks in the group. Either =
way, it's just a means to an end. When looking at a high quality, strong =
stock, I wouldn't eliminate it if its industry strength were not in the =
top 20% as I don't see this as a hurdle but instead as a secondary =
indicator. At the same time, however, I wouldn't automatically assume =
that a stock in a top 20% industry is always healthy. Looking at the =
technical condition of all the stocks in the industry will give you an =
idea as to whether or not the stock and its group members are running =
out of gas.

Katherine

When looking at sectors, which is more important, 1day, 1week,
1month, 6mont, moving up in rank, IBD.s overall ranking? Any ideas? =20
    thanks Larry
