This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - --Boundary_(ID_l1jZK4/Eug0T5AtJWVkJew) Content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT "I invest for the mid to long term, and only consider stocks where I can vocalize a reason why they could go up 100% in a year" I just wanted to highlight that sentiment. It is, IMHO, INCREDIBLY important. I believe that this game is far too difficult if you're only taking 20-25% out of your winners. Public information on valuation/outlook/volume and experience with how stocks trend should enable us all to paint a picture of 'how far a stock can go over the next few quarters'. If that picture isn't 'at least' a double, it may be hard to make outsized returns. It is a great exercise to triple the price of a stock you are interested in, and make a solid case for it trading at that tripled price, and having new buyers step in and buy at that tripled price - in our current market environment. As a result, my IRA finished the year up 76%, a good return in a difficult year, but still below my target of 100%. All my investing is done in small and micro cap stocks, often low priced and thinly traded. So far in 2002, my IRA is up 16%, less than my expectations but still much better than being in a money market. I also funded my margin acct at the end of Jan '02, it is now up 11.5%, also below target but well ahead of remaining in cash. In early August 2001, I started a Virtual Reality Fund, totally limited to small and micro cap stocks, mostly in technology. Again, many are low priced and thinly traded. Got hammered post 9/11 like everything, as I was fully invested by then. Nonetheless, the fund is up 24.8% inception to date, and remains well ahead of every index including the Russell 2000. In addition to being a small cap fund, it is now also a sector fund, with 75% in Information Technology. I invest for the mid to long term, and only consider stocks where I can vocalize a reason why they could go up 100% in a year. I am not a trader, I am an investor, just applying the same basic CANSLIM principles to a far more difficult and risky portion of the market.
