February Trade Gap was the largest in a year at $31.5 billion, even = after factoring out energy products, just another sign of a recovering = US economy trying to drag the global economy along. It was far higher = that economist's forecast of 28.8 billion. CPI rose a tame 0.3% in March, expectations were for a rise of 0.5%. = Stripping out volatile energy and food portions, it was up only 0.1% on = the core rate. Housing starts dropped 7.8%, biggest drop in 12 years, but was measured = against February's rate which was the highest in four years. New = building permits also fell, by 9.9%, below expectations. Industrial production for March was up 0.7%, expectation was for a gain = of 0.5%. February's gain was revised to 0.3% gain. Capacity utilization = came in at 75.4% against expectations of 75.1%, and February's rate of = 74.9%. Consumer debt is again out of control, and may curtail future spending = needed to keep the economy growing.
