as a stock broker, I watched insider activity very closely. Over the years,
I actively prospected officers of publicly traded companies as clients. One
thing I learned, they may know their job well, but most do not understand
the markets. And I have seen insider sales (with exceptions of things like
Enron) almost always be badly timed.
I do agree that insider buying is worth noting. But I completely ignore
selling.

I find the insider sales difficult to understand.
Reasons for sales:
- university tuition costs
- house purchase
- divorce
- to purchas yacht/aircraft
- exercise of expiring options
- fear of falling stock price (but they have to file forms in advance,
so not often the real reason)
Purchases are more a statement of confidence in the future.
Absence of purchases are also an item to watch
