E*Trade is offering a $1,000 signing bonus for active traders, contingent on making 75 trades before June 30 (those who make 30 trades get $500). IBD says this is a strategy to lure customers from Datek which has been taken over by Ameritrade at a cost of about $1,500 per account. I am familiar with Datek and quite satisfied, but would appreciate comparisons to the other two.
