Hi Ira,
The zip program used should not make a difference, as the ZIP format =
is standardized. But, I'm more of a Mac power user (we use .SIT), so I =
may be wrong on that. I'm guessing that the problem may be stemming from =
the way the person's copy of the browser "hands off" the downloaded file =
for processing and it's why I'm assuming that saving the file to disk =
first will allow the zip program itself to do what it needs to do. =
Beyond those guesses, however, I'm clueless!

Katherine, reading your last message makes me wonder whether the Zip =
program one uses makes a difference. What I mean is that I used WinZip =
to unzip your spreadsheet and had no problem. I'm wondering whether the =
people who did have trouble were using a different Zip program than the =
one you used.

hi zillagirl,
Though there is no subject line in your message, I am going to =
assume that you are having trouble opening the CANSLIMHunting =
spreadsheet I uploaded a couple of days ago. Normally when problems like =
this come up, I handle the person's question off line, as the problem is =
often specific to them. However, just in case this is a common =
problem....
When people get "computer garbage" opening the file it is most =
likely because they are not unzipping the file successfully. I'd =
recommend that when you are given the option to "Open" or "Save to Disk" =
the file from the website address that you first "Save to Disk." That =
will place a copy of the zipped file onto your hard drive. Now, open =
your Zip program (PKZip, WinZip, etc.--I used WinZip to compress it) and =
decompress the file. You will end up with an Excel spreadsheet which was =
created in the Windows 2000 version of Excel. If you are running an =
older version of Excel, you may have trouble opening it, as we have =
found the hyperlinks cause some grief in older versions.
