I use SMR as part of my screening; however, I do not buy simply because one stock has an A and one stock has a B SMR. I use it to eliminate the stocks with the D and E SMR ratings. I think only once or twice have i seen a stock the had a D rating meet my sales growth criteria (I think it has PETM a couple of quarters ago). So I do you SMR to reduce the amount of stock charts I have to look at. - --Scott Gettis - -----Original Message----- From: owner-canslim@lists.xmission.com [mailto:owner-canslim@lists.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Tom Worley Sent: Sunday, July 14, 2002 6:11 PM To: CANSLIM Subject: [CANSLIM] Using SMR One member recently asked if anyone uses SMR in evaluating stocks, and if not, why not. I was looking at a chart tonight because of an article in a periodical mentioning that 60% of their revenues come from protecting water supplies against terrorist acts. Seemed interesting, so took a look. Noticed SMR is a "B". However, although EPS is still 77, latest quarterly earnings are down 50%, forecast for full year a decline of 20%, RS down to 28 in a clearly negative trend, and latest sales were the lowest in five consecutive quarters. Simply put, for whatever reason, SMR does not give me an accurate indicator of either the chart or the fundamentals. The stock is TTEK, by the way (Tetra Tech).
