I think your point was that from this list there must be some legitimate prospects. Every Saturday I prepare and download an Excel spreadsheet from the DGO Printed Products Reports. I start the list with the best performing Industry Groups then filter for EPS-80, RS-70, SMR-ABC, A/D-ABC. I put no limitations on Average Trading Volume. This usually produces about 250 names, which, according to IBD standards, are the best performers for the week. Who are the best performers following our huge selloff Friday. Starting at the top, 3 Gold Mining stocks lead the pack. Next are 14 Banks located in the Southwest. For my purposes I lump Banks, Finance-Savings & Loans, and Finance-REIT into one group which this week totaled 90 names out of the 250. Near the top in Industry Group 97 are three HMO's; in Group 95 are 6 Cosmetic Care companies; in Group 93 are 7 Retail-Apparel/Shoe companies. This week the long time leader Bldg-Resident/Comml fell to just 3 companies in Group 87, and they appear to be falling fast. My point is, your list and my list contain many of the same "usual suspects," the difference being my list is more current. More importantly, I think, there doesn't appear to be any particular leader among the pack. I think HMO's and some others in the medical field will do OK over the next year. I keep ignoring "Banks" but on paper they have done very well during the bear market. Will they lead us out of the forest? Somehow I doubt it. The commodity stocks like Gold and Oil are simply too volatile for me. There are too many outside factors that cannot be evaluated. The new leaders may be in the Aerospace-Defense sector, at least there is a rational for leadership, but I guess we will just have to wait and see. The market will tell us when the time is right.
