I think that altruism, and corporate ethics, varies over time. The sharp run
up during the 90s made a lot of people greedy, including both corporate
execs as well as investors. Times have changed, and many investors have been
experiencing their first ever true bear market, where they keep losing money
no matter what they do. Some are going to look for someone to blame, and
corp execs that got too greedy present a very good target.

I have always looked at WON as a businessman first. He made it his business
to know everything possible about the stock markets. While he has not
succeeded at every business he tried, like CANSLIM he has succeeded at
enough to be rich today. I have no fault with him selling his expertise,
rather than giving it away.

Truth is, if he did not charge for his expertise, would we value it as much?

Doggone! Is there another biologist in this room? Good explanation of a
basic concept of behavioral ecology, Mike. Took me right back to my college
Ecology class. Unfortunately, humans are usually the exception to
behavioral, and most other, ecological principles. We are like a bad rumor,
taking on a life all our own, on the ecology field. After witnessing the
events of the past year, I am skeptical that altruism is common in the
marketplace or the corporate world. That said, Katherine does seem to
possess that trait, as do several other members of this group. Darwinian
investment strategies??
